Tourism that transform

Monteverde and its solidarity-based coffee model
Monteverde has found a powerful way to combine tourism and social development: through a solidarity-based coffee model that reinvests directly in its community.

🌱 A community fund for every visitor

Since 2020, three local coffee ventures—Café Monteverde, El Trapiche Coffee Tour, and Don Juan Coffee Tour—have joined forces to donate USD 1 to the community fund for every tourist they welcome.

In five years, this fund has raised more than USD 210,000, which has been invested in infrastructure, culture, entrepreneurship, and social projects throughout the region.

🏘️ Projects with real impact

The resources generated have been allocated to local initiatives such as:

  • Construction of sidewalks connecting residential areas with the city center.
  • Creation and improvement of parks in Santa Elena, Cabeceras, and Valle Bonito.
  • Support for entrepreneurship programs, marketing training, and business formalization.
  • Cultural projects, such as a “traveling art school” that visits public schools in the area.

🌿 Regenerative tourism and shared responsibility

Monteverde no longer sees tourism solely as an economic activity. This model demonstrates that it is a platform for social regeneration, where each guest can indirectly contribute to the collective well-being. Furthermore, this initiative has already been adopted by local hotels within an alliance called H4, which applies the same logic of contribution for each guest received to strengthen social projects.

💡What this means for Burbi Lake Lodge

At Burbi Lake Lodge, we share this vision: we want your stay to be not only a break, but also a way to support local transformation. Our commitment translates into:

  • Participating in and promoting local social development initiatives.
  • Facilitating conscious tourism experiences that generate value for the community.
  • Adopting responsible environmental practices whose benefits extend to the surrounding area.

Monteverde is a living example of how tourism can give way to a new form of relationship with the territory: one where everyone wins—visitors, nature, and the community.
